025: Strangers

For the list at [link] , prompt #25 "Strangers."

This is when Lydia first met Dragon. She was laughing at the people who were afraid of him ("This is your 'rampaging monster'? Seriously? It's about the size of a-- augh! He bit me!") Then the dragon started talking in her head - she's the only one who can hear him, and since he's tasted her blood she's pretty much stuck with him. Lydia was really annoyed at first - for one thing, the dorms don't allow pets, even if they were willing to acknowledge the existence of mythical creatures - but she's gotten used to it.

This started out as another armor-design sketch, but I decided I really have enough drawings of Linden for awhile so I drew Lydia instead. The bottom skirt-thing is based on a sewing pattern I have. (It was one-dollar-pattern-sale-day. I tend to buy anything that looks shiny on those.) The shirt is made of copper or bronze or something, because iron disrupts magic. (Which, incidentally, is why elves can't stand the touch of iron.) Lydia occasionally fills in for her aunt Clarisse as the guardian of the gateway between worlds (it's kind of in their backyard.) Elves don't take her seriously if she's not wearing armor, so she threw this on over jeans and a t-shirt. She thinks it looks ridiculous and is totally impractical anyway. Friggin' elves. The shirt probably belongs to Fiona; I can't imagine any of Clarisse's armor would fit Lydia.
